Case Study

From the start of my tenure at Yahoo Studios (in-house agency for design and production at Yahoo), I was brought onboard to elevate and inform the look and feel of all Yahoo content.  

I surveyed the 2D look FFL had been creating for years. I created style options to elevate their brand, within their tight budget, to stay competitive with ESPN and Fox while I also made stronger connections to the core Yahoo brand.

The show hosts and writers delivered in a playful spirit so the animation needed to feel light and fun with an underpinning of 3D sophistication. You want to feel comfortable here in the hosts conversation and let the graphics match their enthusiasm

In the middle of prepping for the new season launch…Covid began

COVID 2020. 

The show must go on!

Fantasy Football Live was in  its 15th year, when we created it’s fully Virtual Set experience. The show was intended to be shot with all hosts on GS in a studio. Covid sent everyone home. We continued the VR production using hosts in their homes and all crew remotely running all  the studio equipment

We leveraged our relationship with the Product team side of Yahoo Sports to integrate Player Data and Daily Fantasy APIs to build a deeper overall audience experience.

Integrated product placement and sponsor consideration on set, virtual productions opened up several areas that can sometimes be constricted by physical production spaces

The 90 minute show features 6 custom set locations, 28+ scenes, a brand new full-size stadium seating 80,000, additional new Sportsbook, 5 remote talent, Survival Kit segment with talent on full green screen

Upgraded AR Player cards for greater performance and access to every active NFL player in real time.

Newly added AR Tweets allow for immersive social segments and interaction in real time within stadium environment

For the first time, we displayed league schedules and multiple betting displays driven by real-time Yahoo API data feeds.

Sports programs of this magnitude on other networks usually run with 2 Brainstorm systems + 2 live operators. Yahoo Studios does it with 1 BS and 1 operator
